## Description

The Benelli Super Black Eagle III in 28 gauge is a semi-automatic shotgun built around Benelli's inertia-driven action. At 5.6 lbs. and 49.5 inches overall with a 28-inch barrel, it's on the light end for a semi-auto, which makes it easy to carry all day but does mean more felt recoil with heavier loads. It chambers 2-3/4" and 3" shells and holds 2+1 rounds.

### Detailed Features
The ComfortTech 3 recoil pad is Benelli's chevron-column stock design that flexes on firing to reduce the snap; it helps noticeably with a light 28 gauge gun cycling heavy field loads. The shim kit lets you adjust drop and cast at the stock, useful if the neutral factory dimensions don't fit you out of the box.

The easy-loading system uses a beveled port and a redesigned carrier that drops the shell cleanly on reload. The Crio-treated barrel has a cryogenic treatment intended to improve shot-pattern uniformity and slow bore wear. Both flush and extended choke tubes are included, covering the full range from cylinder to full.

> A little bit of pre-travel to it. Pretty common in the Benellis and a lot of semi-autos. A little sponge to it actually, but it breaks nicely.

> For me, I would say a little bit short.

> Recoil wise. I mean, this is 20 gauge. It's got some pop for a 20 gauge. Straight back into the shoulder.

> I think this is one area where benelli really shines it's got a smaller grip here the forearm feels great in the hands.

> Into the shoulder it's not bad at all and i'm not getting pounded in the face i like how this shotgun is handling the recoil.

## What Customers Say

*AI-generated insights from customer reviews*

The SBE3 in 28 gauge gets positive marks overall, with most owners pointing to the inertia action's reliability across load types as the main reason to choose it. The 28 gauge platform in particular appeals to upland hunters and clay shooters who want a semi-auto that doesn't beat them up on long days.

The build quality and ergonomics draw consistent praise. The grip shape and balance point are comfortable, and the synthetic stock holds up in wet conditions without the maintenance a wood stock needs. The light weight (5.6 lbs.) is both a selling point and a caveat: easy to carry, but the gun moves more on heavier loads compared to a heavier platform.

Price is the most common sticking point in discussions. The SBE3 costs more than most competitors, and some shooters debate whether the premium over a Beretta or Browning of similar spec is justified for their use case. A smaller number also note that 28 gauge ammunition availability and cost can be a factor depending on location.
