### Features
At 5.5 lbs the .45 Colt version is notably lighter than the .357 Carbine variant. The lever action is the same 1892 pattern, smooth cycling with a short throw. The blued barrel and color case receiver are traditional finishes that hold up well with routine care. The adjustable ladder rear sight covers elevation and windage, giving more precision flexibility than a fixed notch.

The hand-oiled walnut pistol grip provides a secure hold. The 12-inch barrel gives the .45 Colt cartridge enough length to develop reasonable velocity while keeping the overall package compact at 24 inches.

### Usage
The .45 Colt chambering is a natural fit for SASS cowboy action shooting, where it is one of the approved cartridges and has a large following. It also works as a collector piece for anyone building a historically themed firearms set. The .45 Colt's 19th-century lineage is well established. Hunters who carry it as a sidearm for medium game at close range have a workable option given the cartridge's energy. Five rounds is the practical limit for most competition stages.

## What Customers Say

*AI-generated insights from customer reviews*

The .45 Colt Mare's Leg draws strong interest from cowboy action shooters and collectors who value the cartridge's historical credentials. The combination of color case and blued finishes gets consistent positive remarks. The fit and finish are considered good for the price point.

At 5.5 lbs it is the lightest of the 12-inch Mare's Leg variants, which most shooters view as a positive. The lever action is smooth and the pistol grip stock works well for the majority of hand sizes, though some shooters with larger hands find the grip dimensions a bit narrow for their preference.

The .45 Colt ammunition supply is generally better than .44-40 but not as broadly available as 9mm or .357, and it runs pricier than .38 Special. Recoil with standard-pressure .45 Colt loads is mild enough that most shooters find it a comfortable gun to shoot for extended sessions. Legal classification questions come up occasionally. In some jurisdictions the 12-inch barrel length triggers NFA or state-specific rules, so buyers should verify local regulations before purchasing.
