## What Customers Say

*AI-generated insights from customer reviews*

The Riley Defense RAK74 in 5.45x39mm gets a generally positive reception with a few practical caveats.

The caliber choice is a draw for many buyers. The 5.45x39mm cartridge produces lower recoil than 7.62x39mm and delivers good accuracy, which users mention as a reason to pick this over other AK-pattern options. The 16-inch barrel and semi-auto action are seen as a practical combination for range use.

The wood furniture gets favorable comments for aesthetics. Buyers who want something that looks different from the standard black synthetic AK-style rifle appreciate it, and the materials are generally seen as good quality for the price.

The price point also comes up positively, particularly from buyers comparing it to higher-cost options in the same category.

On the downside, magazine compatibility is a recurring issue. Not all aftermarket magazines work reliably with this model, which limits flexibility. Ammunition availability and pricing for 5.45x39mm can also be inconsistent, which some users flag as a practical concern when buying a rifle chambered in it.

Overall, the RAK74 is seen as a solid rifle for the price by shooters who specifically want the 5.45x39mm caliber in an AK-style platform.

> **austin6** (4/5): Very fun so far, though surplus magazines often need fitting.

> **notnowpete** (4/5): Magazine fit is the sticking point on an otherwise enjoyable rifle. Surplus magazines can need fitting, so assuming that every one will simply slot in properly would set the wrong expectation. That is...
