## Description

The Springfield Armory XD-9 is a full-size semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9mm Luger. It has a polymer frame, a Melonite-finished slide, and a grip safety, the passive safety that requires a proper firing grip before the trigger will cycle. At 28 ounces with a 4-inch barrel and 16-round standard capacity, it sits in the middle of the full-size service pistol class.

### Key Specifications

- **Manufacturer**: Springfield Armory

- **Caliber**: 9mm Luger
- **Barrel Length**: 4 inches
- **Capacity (Standard/Extended)**: 16 rounds

- **Slide Material/Finish**: Melonite
- **Overall Length**: 7.3 inches

The Melonite finish on the slide is durable and corrosion-resistant, and the dovetail sights give you a clean sight picture without needing an immediate upgrade. The polymer frame keeps weight down while the 16-round capacity means fewer reloads in a training or defensive scenario. At 7.3 inches overall length, this is not a compact carry gun. It works best as a home defense handgun, a range gun, or a duty/competition pistol where concealment isn't the priority. The grip safety is a dividing point for shooters; some prefer it as an added layer of protection, others find it unnecessary or occasionally problematic with a weak firing grip.

## What Customers Say

*AI-generated insights from customer reviews*

The Springfield XD-9 gets generally favorable reviews, with the ergonomics and grip geometry mentioned most often as positives. Owners say it fits the hand well and is comfortable to shoot, which contributes to good control during sustained sessions at the range. Reliability across different ammunition types comes up consistently. Users report that it feeds and cycles without issue, which matters for both new and experienced shooters building confidence with a platform.

Accuracy is well regarded, and the pistol's range performance meets expectations for a full-size 9mm. Neither complaint is a deal-breaker for most buyers. The core function holds up. The XD-9 fits well for home defense or recreational use where the full-size frame is an asset rather than a limitation.
