ATF Seeks Temporary Extension of Current Form 4473 Without Changes
The ATF interim notice says the agency will ask the Office of Management and Budget to extend the current Form 4473 information collection without changes. The notice took effect July 29, 2026.
ATF said the existing approval expires at the end of August, before the agency can finish reviewing public comments on proposed Form 4473 revisions and related rulemakings. The temporary extension is intended to keep a valid transaction record available to federal firearms licensees during that review.
This does not finalize or cancel the proposed Form 4473 revisions. ATF says it will later publish the standard 30-day notice, summarize the comments it received, respond to them, and identify any resulting changes.
