Florida Opens Four-Month Sales Tax Holiday for Firearms, Ammunition and Accessories
Florida’s four-month Hunting, Fishing, and Camping Sales Tax Holiday began Tuesday, September 1, 2026. Under Florida Department of Revenue guidance, sales tax is not due on retail sales of specified hunting, fishing and camping items through Thursday, December 31. For firearm buyers, the covered categories include ammunition, pistols, rifles, shotguns and an itemized group of firearm accessories. The department issued Tax Information Publication 26A01-06 on July 1 and cites Section 43 of Chapter 2026-239, Laws of Florida, as the legal authority.
Firearms and listed accessories
The firearm portion does not carry the price ceilings that apply to several camping and fishing categories. The department defines a firearm for this holiday as a weapon capable of firing a missile, including a pistol, rifle or shotgun using an explosive charge as a propellant. Its accessory list covers barrels, cases or range bags, charging handles, cleaning kits, handguards, holsters, internal parts and components, magazines or other ammunition feeding devices or carriers, pistol grips, shooting chronographs, shooting mats, rests or bipods, sights or optics, slides or cylinders, slings, stocks or braces, suppressors or silencers, and triggers.
