Springfield Armory announced a new 4-inch, polished-blued SA-35 pistol on October 6, 2026. The 9mm model combines the line's shorter slide and barrel assembly with a polished finish that Springfield previously offered on a longer SA-35. Its catalog number is HP9205, its UPC is 706397005979, and the listed MSRP is $799. Springfield calls it the newest member of the SA-35 family and positions the configuration for everyday carry, but the announcement is a launch notice rather than an independent test of its carry performance.
What HP9205 changes
The new configuration uses a 4-inch forged barrel with a feed-ramp design that Springfield says is intended to work with modern defensive ammunition. Both the slide and frame are carbon steel forgings, finished in polished blue rather than the matte blue used on the original black model. Finely checkered walnut grip panels complete the exterior treatment. That combination is the actual product change: the compact 4-inch format is not new by itself, and neither is polished blue. HP9205 puts those two existing SA-35 choices together in one factory model.
Springfield's current SA-35 model listing makes the comparison clearer. The black 4-inch HP9204 also lists at $799, while the longer polished-blued HP9202 carries the same $799 MSRP. Other listed SA-35 variants reach $859. Buyers comparing catalog numbers should therefore distinguish HP9205 from HP9204 by finish and from HP9202 by the shorter barrel assembly. The company has not published a sale price, and MSRP does not establish what individual dealers will charge.

Controls, sights, and magazine setup
The pistol retains the operating features Springfield lists for the SA-35 family. Those include a factory-tuned trigger, a recontoured hammer intended to reduce hammer bite, and an extended thumb safety. The frame has a beveled magazine well. Springfield also builds the SA-35 without a magazine disconnect, allowing the magazine to drop free rather than tying trigger operation to the presence of a magazine. These are continuing family features, not changes unique to HP9205, an important distinction for owners deciding whether the new finish and shorter upper justify choosing this model.
Sight equipment also carries over. Springfield specifies a white-dot front sight and its Tactical Rack rear sight. Capacity is 15 rounds in a flush-fit, double-column magazine, and the SA-35 family page says one blued-steel magazine is included. The announcement describes improved ergonomics and enhanced controls relative to the historic P-35 pattern on which the pistol is based. It does not claim a new sight cut, optics interface, accessory rail, or capacity increase for HP9205, so none of those should be inferred from the launch.
Springfield says the SA-35 is made in the United States and uses forged steel components for strength and durability. The family page further describes the barrel as cold hammer forged. Those construction details place HP9205 within the existing SA-35 mechanical package rather than identifying an internal redesign. The polished finish changes the surface treatment and appearance, while the 4-inch barrel changes the format compared with the longer polished model. The release supplies no accuracy standard, trigger-pull measurement, or endurance data, and it reports no hands-on test results.
The specifications still missing
The largest unanswered questions concern size, weight, and timing. Steve Kramer, Springfield Armory's vice president of marketing, described the new version as lighter and more compact, but the release does not state its unloaded weight, overall length, height, or width. It also does not quantify how much lighter or shorter HP9205 is than HP9202. Those omissions matter to holster fit and carry planning. The company lists an SA-35 holster among related products, but neither the announcement nor the family page confirms compatibility with every holster made for another SA-35 configuration.
Springfield's family page now labels HP9205 as new and includes it alongside the other SA-35 variations, but the launch materials do not give an initial shipment date, dealer inventory date, or production quantity. The practical next milestone is publication of a live product-specific specification page or dealer shipment information that supplies the missing dimensions, weight, and availability timing. Until then, the verified purchasing identifiers are HP9205 and UPC 706397005979, with a $799 manufacturer-suggested price and a stated 15-round configuration subject to local restrictions.
