Detailed Features

.50 Beowulf is a large-bore cartridge developed by Alexander Arms specifically for the AR platform. It fires a .50-caliber projectile at subsonic to moderate velocities, trading the range and flat trajectory of a rifle cartridge for substantial frontal diameter and terminal energy at close to medium range.

The 18-inch barrel is shorter than the original Beowulf configuration but keeps the overall length at a manageable 37 inches. The 1:20 twist is matched to the heavier Beowulf projectiles. The B5 Bravo stock is a fixed design that provides a stable cheek weld.

The rifle runs on a modified AR bolt carrier group designed to handle the larger case. Magazine capacity drops to 7+1 due to the cartridge dimensions. No sights are included; mount optics before use.

Usage

.50 Beowulf is niche but has real applications. At close to moderate range it has significant stopping power on large animals and is used for feral hog and large game hunting. Ammunition is available but not as easy to find as mainstream calibers, and per-round cost is higher than 5.56 or .308. For competitive shooting or regular range use, factor that into the total cost of ownership.

Owners of the Alexander Arms Beowulf .50 Tactical discuss a recognizable set of themes.

The cartridge's terminal performance dominates positive discussions. Shooters who use it for hunting large game, particularly hogs, comment on the effectiveness of the .50 Beowulf's frontal diameter. Build quality gets solid marks; the rifle feels substantial and the construction is considered reliable.

Recoil comes up frequently as a point of honest feedback. .50 Beowulf produces significantly more felt recoil than standard AR calibers, and new owners occasionally mention it was more than expected. It's manageable with good technique, and forum threads regularly discuss technique and muzzle device choices for softening it.

Ammunition availability is the most common practical concern. .50 Beowulf is a specialty cartridge with fewer retail stocking points than mainstream options, and the per-round cost is high. This comes up in almost every discussion about the platform and is the primary reason some buyers hesitate.

Customization is a positive for most owners. The rifle accepts standard AR accessories, and the optic-ready platform is appreciated by buyers who run their own glass.

Weight at 9 lbs is noted by some users as limiting for extended carries, though most consider it appropriate for a .50-caliber AR.

Price discussions generally conclude that the rifle is reasonably valued given its specialty nature, though comparisons with mainstream .223/5.56 ARs are not useful reference points given the fundamentally different use case.
