Features
The inertia system is mechanically simple, fewer parts than gas-operated designs, and cycles reliably across a range of load weights when maintained. The ComfortTech 3 recoil pad and Comb-Tech pad reduce felt recoil, which matters more in a 5.6-lb 28 gauge than in heavier guns. The user-adjustable shim kit lets you set drop and cast to fit your mount. The easy locking bolt and easy loading system are quality-of-life improvements that Benelli carried forward from earlier SBE generations. The Crio-treated barrel with carbon fiber stepped rib is designed to maintain pattern consistency over extended use.
Usage
The 28 gauge chambering makes this lighter and more maneuverable than 12 gauge alternatives, at the cost of payload. It works for upland birds, waterfowl where the shot distances are reasonable, and sport clays. The 3-inch chamber handles the full range of 28 gauge loads available.

What Reviewers Say
Quoted verbatim from YouTube reviews. Each link opens the video at the moment quoted.
I don't know why Benelli has dropped the ball so much in Springs.
I think they run a lower tension because they want the gun to cycle with it about anything you put in it but the long-term U durability of that spring is questionable at least.
It has never failed to cycle it's been a great gun and it really does live up to its namesake and design.
It is simply a heavy weight and it doesn't seem to affect recoil but it doesn't also give you this confidence that it is a super high-end component.
Dude look at my rib I don't know where it we went and all it is is from shooting like it's not getting banged on anything.
Customers Say
AI-generated insights derived from customer reviews and discussions on popular gun-enthusiast forums.
The SBE III in 28 gauge is well-regarded among hunters who prioritize light weight and handling over maximum payload. The inertia action gets credit for reliability and a smooth cycling feel, and most owners report it runs consistently across different load types once the gun has some rounds through it.
The Mossy Oak Bottomland finish is practical for field use. The pattern works in a variety of cover. Balance and swing characteristics come up positively, particularly from upland hunters who carry the gun for long days.
Price is the most commonly cited concern. The SBE III sits at the top end of semi-auto shotgun pricing, and some users debate whether the 28 gauge version represents good value compared to a 12 gauge of the same quality at a similar or lower price. For hunters who specifically want a light 28 gauge semi-auto, the options are fewer, which makes the price more defensible.
Recoil with lighter loads occasionally comes up. The inertia system needs a certain minimum impulse to cycle reliably, so very light target loads can cause issues in a gun this light. Maintenance requirements are standard: keep it properly lubricated and it runs; neglect it and the inertia system is less forgiving than a gas gun.
Overall, feedback is positive from hunters who use it in the field for its intended purpose.
