The Benelli Super Black Eagle 3 in 20 GA is a semi-automatic field shotgun built for hunters who cover a lot of ground. At 5.9 lbs it's light enough to carry all day, and the Gore Optifade Timber camo blends into wooded cover well.

The inertia-driven semi-automatic action is what Benelli is known for. It's simple, reliable, and cycles consistently across a wide range of loads. The 3-inch chamber handles standard field loads and heavier waterfowl ammunition. At 28 inches the barrel is a good all-around length for wingshooting. The red-bar front sight picks up quickly in low light, useful for early morning hunts. Gore Optifade Timber specifically targets woodland environments and holds up to field conditions.
Waterfowl and upland hunting are the primary use cases. The light weight makes it practical for long walks after pheasant or woodcock. The 20 GA chambering reduces felt recoil relative to 12 GA loads, which some hunters prefer for a full day of shooting.
The SBE3 20 GA Timber Camo gets consistently strong reviews from hunters who use it in the field. The lightweight build is the feature most commonly highlighted. 5.9 lbs is genuinely light for a semi-auto shotgun, and it makes a difference when you're carrying it for hours.
The inertia action's reliability is a recurring point. Owners report that it cycles cleanly across different load types without the maintenance overhead that gas-operated designs require. Recoil management is frequently called out as better than expected for a light gun, and follow-up shots are quick without losing control.
The Timber Camo finish gets positive marks for both appearance and function in wooded settings. The price is the main friction point. The SBE3 is a significant investment compared to other 20 GA semi-autos. Most owners who mention this still consider it worth it, but a few note the initial break-in period or specific maintenance steps Benelli recommends. Those are minor issues against the overall performance picture.
