Description

The Chapuis Chasseur Classic is a side-by-side shotgun chambered in 28 gauge, built in France for upland hunting. It is a box-lock double with a laser-engraved coin-finish receiver, AAA-grade satin walnut stock, double triggers, automatic ejectors and an automatic safety. The walnut stock and engraved steel give it a traditional look that's hard to argue with.

Features

Two barrels and two triggers give an instant choice of choke for the first shot, which is the traditional upland arrangement. At 5.5 pounds it's light enough to carry all day without fatigue becoming a factor. The 28-inch barrels give good swing for wingshooting without becoming unwieldy in brush.

The 28 gauge produces noticeably less recoil than 12 or 20 gauge options, though a gun this light gives some of that advantage back. For upland hunting (quail, woodcock, grouse) the light gauge and weight combination works cleanly for the distances involved.

The Chapuis Chasseur Classic 28GA gets a lot of appreciation from shooters who care about both looks and function. The craftsmanship, woodwork and metal finishing especially, comes up constantly as a reason people are drawn to it. It's the kind of shotgun that people pick up and don't want to put down.

Performance feedback is solid. Owners describe the action as tight and the ejectors as positive, and the lightweight 28-gauge build makes it comfortable to carry for long days in the field. That light carry is one of the most-praised practical features.

The price point generates some debate. Several buyers feel it sits high relative to other 28-gauge options, though most who own one seem to think the quality justifies the cost. Availability and dealer support come up occasionally, with some buyers noting that finding the gun in stock or getting follow-up service can be harder than with more common brands.
