Owners of the Charles Daly 601 tend to view it as a functional field gun at an accessible price point. The TrueTimber Strata pattern is well-received by hunters who want a camo finish without paying a premium.

The semi-auto action on the 601 earns decent marks for reliability with standard loads, though some owners report early-break-in sensitivity to lighter field loads. Cycling consistency improves after a few boxes, which is a common complaint on entry-level gas guns.

For the price bracket the 601 occupies, fit and finish receive mixed reviews. The wood-to-metal fit is acceptable for field use, but owners who have handled higher-end semi-autos notice the difference. It is a working gun, not a showpiece, and most owners who buy it for that purpose are satisfied.
