Detailed Features

The octagonal barrel is a defining visual characteristic of the 1858 pattern and distinguishes it from the round-barrel SAA derivatives. The two-piece walnut grip fits the frame well. Forged steel construction with a blued finish.

At 8 inches of barrel, the sight radius is long, which helps at distance. Single-action operation is standard for the type.

Usage Scenarios

The 8-inch barrel and long overall length make this best suited for range shooting, historical reenactments, and collecting. It's not a carry gun in any practical sense. For cowboy action shooting events that allow longer barrels, it's a distinctive choice.

Owners of the Cimarron 1858 in .45 Colt are generally drawn to the historical design and come away satisfied with both looks and function.

The octagonal barrel and overall 1858 pattern get consistent praise from people interested in period-correct firearms aesthetics. The blued finish and walnut grips are described positively. Build quality from Cimarron's Italian manufacturer is well-regarded.

Accuracy and reliability at the range draw good marks. The .45 Colt caliber is described as pleasant to shoot, with manageable recoil in a 2.80 lb frame.

The weight and length are acknowledged as limitations. At 13.8 inches and 2.80 lbs, this isn't a working carry gun, and most buyers understand that going in. Some users mention that prolonged handling requires adjustment compared to shorter revolvers. Maintenance discussion is typical for any traditional-style revolver, nothing out of the ordinary for the type.
