Detailed Features

The top-break design is the defining functional feature. Opening the action ejects all spent cases simultaneously, which is faster than a traditional gate-loading single-action. The wide front sight is suited for the SAO role, giving a clear sight picture for target work. The walnut grips are period-correct for the Schofield design. The matte black steel finish is uniform across barrel and cylinder.

Usage

The Schofield configuration is popular in cowboy action shooting for its faster reloading compared to traditional SAA revolvers. The 7-inch barrel makes it more of a range or collection gun than a compact field piece. At 3.5 lbs it's a substantial revolver. The single-action mechanism requires practice to run efficiently.

Feedback on the Cimarron Schofield Classic .45 Colt in matte black reflects a mix of appreciation for its historical character and some practical concerns.

The connection to the original Schofield design is the main draw for most buyers. They appreciate both the aesthetics and the top-break reloading system. The matte black finish gets generally positive remarks for its clean look that reads as traditional without being a standard blued finish. The trigger pull is described as smooth and the gun handles well during shooting.

Critical discussion focuses on size and weight. At 3.5 lbs and 7 inches of barrel, it's not a compact gun, and some find it tiring to shoot or carry for extended periods. The single-action mechanism takes practice for new shooters to operate fluidly. Some buyers note that aftermarket support and ammunition variety discussions come up compared to more mainstream options. Value opinions are mixed. Some see the craftsmanship as justifying the price, others feel alternative revolvers in a similar range offer more practical value.
