The Colt Government Model 1911C is a single-action .45 ACP pistol with a 5-inch barrel, blued steel construction, and double diamond checkered rosewood grips. Capacity is 7+1 rounds. Novak-style three-dot sights handle target acquisition, and an ambidextrous thumb grip safety is standard alongside the grip safety. The blued finish gives it a traditional look while offering decent corrosion resistance.

Detailed Features

The 5-inch barrel is the Government Model's defining spec. It gives the gun good balance and keeps accuracy consistent for both target work and defensive use. The rosewood grips fill the hand well and look the part on a blued gun. Novak-style three-dot sights are a practical upgrade over older GI-style sights, reading clearly in varied lighting.

The Colt 1911C draws the kind of owners who already know what a 1911 is and want one with Colt's name on it. Most feedback reflects genuine appreciation for the platform rather than discovery. These aren't first-time buyers getting surprised by the trigger.

The blued finish and rosewood grips attract consistent positive remarks. Owners consider the combination aesthetically correct for a traditional Government Model, and the finish quality holds up to scrutiny. The 5-inch barrel with Novak-style sights is cited as a good balance between accuracy and controlability for both range use and home defense.

The main criticisms are predictable for the platform: it's heavier than modern polymer pistols at 4.42 lbs, and the 7+1 capacity is low by current standards. Maintenance requirements come up too. 1911s need more frequent attention than striker-fired designs to stay running reliably, and some owners note that newer pistols require less upkeep. These trade-offs are well understood by the target buyer, and most discussions treat them as known characteristics rather than complaints.

Colt did a fine job with the overall quality of this 1911. The configuration is very close to what I would choose if I were laying out a custom pistol for myself, so the factory appearance immediately appealed to me. I did replace the short trigger with a longer one to better suit my preference, and that small change completed the setup I had in mind. The roll-marked slide also gives this version an interesting identity, especially given the account that Colt found a batch of five thousand previously overlooked slides in its inventory and used them for these pistols. I could not be happier with how mine came together.
