Action: Over/Under
Barrel Length: 28 inches

Finish: Grade A Satin Walnut

Detailed Features

The over/under action is smooth and straightforward, with minimal felt recoil for a 16 GA load. The 28-inch barrel gives a good balance between swing speed and pattern consistency at typical upland flushing distances. The Grade A satin walnut stock has a clean, traditional look with a solid grip surface.

16 GA sits between 20 and 12 gauge in terms of payload and recoil. It delivers more shot than a 20 gauge while keeping recoil lighter than a comparably loaded 12 gauge, which makes it a practical choice for all-day bird hunting.

Usage

This shotgun handles upland game and clay targets well. The 28-inch barrel is a natural fit for pheasant, quail, and skeet. One practical consideration: 16 GA shells are less widely stocked than 12 or 20 gauge, so buying in bulk or ordering online is worth factoring into ownership costs.

Owners of the Franchi Instinct SLX 16 GA generally appreciate the combination of light weight and traditional walnut aesthetics. The satin walnut finish draws consistent praise for its craftsmanship and classic appearance compared to synthetic-stocked alternatives.

The 16 GA caliber is a recurring talking point. Fans of the gauge like the middle-ground balance between the 20's lightness and the 12's payload, and the reduced recoil compared to 12 GA gets positive mentions from hunters who spend full days in the field. The tradeoff is ammunition availability. Most discussions acknowledge that 16 GA shells require more planning to source and cost more per box than 12 GA.

Overall handling and build quality are viewed positively. Price is seen as high by some owners, though most consider it reasonable for the craftsmanship level. No significant reliability complaints appear in user feedback.
