The Glock 42 is generally appreciated for doing one thing well: being small enough to carry comfortably while remaining reliable enough to trust.

Size and weight are the most cited positives. At 13.76 oz, it's light enough that most carriers forget it's there. Glock's reliability reputation holds up for this model, with owners reporting minimal malfunctions. The DAO trigger draws praise for its consistency, and the build quality is routinely noted as solid.

The caliber is the most common discussion point. Some owners are entirely comfortable with .380 ACP for personal defense; others feel the step down from 9mm is worth acknowledging. It doesn't change the gun's function, but it's a real consideration for buyers choosing between similar-sized options. A few shooters with larger hands find the grip too small for comfort over longer sessions. Aftermarket accessory availability is more limited than Glock's larger models.

For its intended purpose, discreet daily carry, the G42 does what it's supposed to do.

This little Glock feels solid in my hand rather than toy-like, and its sights are especially good for a subcompact. Its light, compact dimensions also make it easy for me to carry discreetly in a pants pocket.
