Target Audience

Works well for small-game hunters, casual plinkers, and collectors drawn to traditional lever-action styling. The .22 WMR caliber gives it more reach than .22 LR without adding significant recoil. New shooters appreciate the mild handling; experienced shooters appreciate the craftsmanship.

Usage Scenarios

• Small game hunting (squirrels, rabbits) at moderate distances where .22 WMR's extra velocity over .22 LR matters.
• Range shooting and plinking.
• A rifle that holds display value alongside practical use.

The Henry Golden Boy Deluxe 4th Edition in .22 WMR draws consistently positive responses, with a few honest caveats worth noting.

The craftsmanship gets the most attention. Buyers comment on the fit of the wood-to-metal, the quality of the Brasslite brass receiver, and the octagonal barrel's appearance. Henry's build quality relative to its price tier comes up often as a differentiator.

The lever action is widely described as smooth out of the box, which matters to buyers who have handled cheaper lever guns that required break-in. .22 WMR is noted as a practical step up from .22 LR for small game - more energy and flatter trajectory at distance.

Weight at 6.75 lbs is manageable for most adults and easy for younger or smaller-framed shooters.

The main criticism is price. Some buyers feel the Golden Boy Deluxe sits at the high end for a rimfire lever gun and compare it to less expensive Henry models or competitor options. The counter-argument in most discussions is that the Deluxe finish justifies the premium for buyers who care about aesthetics.

A few discussions mention sights - the semi-buckhorn rear and brass bead front are traditional but not the easiest for aging eyes. Mounting optics requires adding a rail since the rifle doesn't ship with one. That's a common note across Henry's iron-sight rifles, not specific to this model.
