Owners of the Iver Johnson IJ700 tend to value its single-shot simplicity. The walnut stock gets positive comments for its traditional look and feel, and many use the 20-gauge configuration for upland bird hunting or as an introduction to shotgunning.

The single-shot format splits opinion. Some owners appreciate the light weight and ease of maintenance that comes with a straightforward action, while others find the single-round capacity a limiting factor for field use where follow-up shots matter.

Value-for-money is a common discussion point. The IJ700 is often recommended as a starter shotgun, though experienced shooters sometimes note that the fit and finish reflects its price tier.
