The Marlin 336C Classic Edition is a lever-action rifle in .30-30 Winchester with a curly maple stock and polished blue finish across the receiver, bolt, barrel, tube, and lever. The solid-top steel receiver feeds a 6-shot tubular magazine through a 20-inch Micro-Groove barrel.
Micro-Groove rifling with 12 grooves at a 1:10 twist promotes tight groupings with standard .30-30 loads. The curly maple stock has natural figure variation and handles field conditions well. Polished blue over the steel metalwork gives it a clean, traditional look without sacrificing corrosion resistance with proper care. The adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight lets you set elevation for your preferred load. At 7 lbs and 40.5 inches overall, it handles well from a standing or offhand position.
The 336C is a solid whitetail rifle for shots inside 200 yards, particularly in wooded or mixed terrain where a long barrel is cumbersome. The lever action is also a practical choice for teaching mechanical operation to new shooters. The manual of arms is straightforward and the .30-30's recoil is manageable.
The 336C Curly Maple gets a lot of attention for its looks. The figured maple and polished blue combination is genuinely striking on a production lever gun, and collectors along with hunters both appreciate it. Owners regularly tie it to family traditions and the Marlin 336 series' long history as a deer rifle, which adds an emotional dimension to discussions you don't see with many modern platforms.
On the practical side, the .30-30's effectiveness at hunting ranges and the smoothness of the lever cycle come up consistently as positives. Durability is another common point. The construction holds up to regular use without complaint. Some owners discuss optics mounting or sight upgrades, and a handful note the price relative to budget-oriented alternatives. Availability depending on market conditions has been a recurring frustration for buyers trying to find specific configurations. Overall the sentiment is strongly positive, with the curly maple variant seen as one of the more desirable versions of the 336 line.
