The Mauser MP-40 Carbine is a semi-automatic rifle chambered in .22 LR, aimed at sport shooters, new shooters building skills, and small game hunters. The design borrows its aesthetic from the WWII-era MP-40 submachine gun and carries it into a modern rimfire platform.

Features

The adjustable rear sights let shooters dial in accuracy at different distances. The underfolding stock folds away for compact storage and transport, while still providing a stable shooting position when deployed. A faux suppressor muzzle is fitted at the barrel end. The safety is ambidextrous, so it works equally well for left- and right-handed shooters.

At 7.8 lbs with a 23-round capacity in .22 LR, the gun is manageable for extended range sessions. Recoil is minimal at this caliber, which makes it practical for training and for introducing new shooters to semi-automatic rifles. The black Parkerized finish gives it a utilitarian, durable look consistent with the military-inspired design.

Community feedback on the Mauser MP-40 Gen 2 .22LR Carbine is mostly positive, with a few recurring caveats.

The biggest draw is the MP-40-inspired design. Collectors and history enthusiasts tend to be immediately interested, and most shooters enjoy the nostalgic look at the range. Performance for a .22LR carbine is generally well-regarded. It runs reliably for target shooting and plinking, with accuracy that works well at typical rimfire distances.

The adjustable sights get consistent praise for letting shooters tune their zero without extra hardware. The underfolding stock gets more mixed responses: handy for storage, but some users find it less stable than a fixed stock when shooting. Build quality is mostly well-received, though occasional fit-and-finish complaints show up in discussion threads.

Ammo cost is a practical plus. .22LR keeps range sessions affordable, and the 23-round capacity means less time reloading. The low recoil makes it accessible across experience levels. Discussions also touch on optics and accessories that pair well with the platform for those who want to customize further.

My bolt keeps hanging up around the midpoint of its travel. That recurring problem makes the carbine difficult to use.
