The Mossberg Patriot in 7MM-08 with a 22-inch fluted barrel gets positive marks for accuracy and value. The 7MM-08 caliber is well-liked for deer and medium game, useful power, flat trajectory, and controllable recoil. The fluted barrel is appreciated for its weight reduction and heat management. Owners generally feel the rifle delivers solid performance relative to its price.

The bolt cycle is described as smooth, and the adjustable LBA trigger is seen as a practical feature at this price point. The synthetic stock handles weather without complaint.

The trigger feel draws some criticism, a handful of owners find it could be more refined and note that out-of-the-box feel varies. Finish durability is another occasional complaint, with some feeling it shows wear faster than expected. Recoil management splits a few opinions, with less experienced shooters noting it takes some adjustment to get comfortable.
