The Rock Island Armory Tac Ultra FS Combo is a single-action semi-automatic pistol built on the 1911 platform and chambered for both 9mm and .22 TCM9R. Features

The dual-caliber setup lets you run 9mm for self-defense or higher-round-count practice and .22 TCM9R when you want the high-velocity rimless bottleneck cartridge. The G10 grips hold up under wet conditions better than standard plastic. The adjustable rear sight combined with the fiber optic front lets you dial in your zero and pick up the front post quickly in varying light. The beavertail and ambidextrous thumb safety make this accessible for left- and right-handed shooters without modification.

The Rock Island Tac Ultra FS dual-caliber pistol draws consistent praise on two points: the dual-caliber concept and the price relative to what you get.

The ability to run both 9mm and .22 TCM9R is the main reason people buy this gun, and most owners report the caliber switch works as advertised. Build quality generally gets positive marks. Steel construction at this price point is uncommon, and the pistol has a solid feel.

Accuracy on both calibers is frequently noted as a positive, with most range sessions going smoothly once the shooter adjusts to the different recoil impulses. The .22 TCM9R is a noticeably high-velocity cartridge and shoots flat; some owners buy the combo specifically to experiment with it.

Common complaints: the pistol runs heavy for a carry gun at 2.62 lbs unloaded, and the trigger pull is on the heavier side out of the box, something that bothers shooters used to competition-tuned 1911s. Occasional feeding issues during caliber swaps are mentioned, usually traced to magazine compatibility or incomplete assembly of the conversion. Aftermarket support is thinner than for mainstream 1911s, so finding drop-in upgrades takes more effort.
