Detailed Features

The AccuTrigger is adjustable by the user. Pull weight is set to preference rather than fixed at the factory. This improves consistency for both new and experienced shooters. The 20" barrel gives the .400 Legend cartridge adequate length to develop velocity while keeping overall length under 40".

The FDE synthetic stock keeps weight down and is unaffected by moisture or temperature swings. The matte black finish limits glare. Integral swivel studs are in place for sling attachment.

The 3-9x40 scope ships pre-mounted, so the rifle is ready to zero without additional hardware. The receiver accepts standard mounting systems for shooters who prefer different glass.

Usage

The .400 Legend is a straight-walled cartridge, legal for deer hunting in states that restrict centerfire hunting to that case type. At 7.4 lbs. with optic, the rifle carries comfortably over long distances. The 4+1 capacity with a detachable magazine allows reloading without losing firing position. The adjustable trigger and included scope give sufficient precision for deer hunting at practical ranges without modifications.

The Savage Axis 2 Compact XP .400 Legend collects broadly positive feedback with a few recurring criticisms.

Compact dimensions are the most praised feature. The rifle handles well for shooters who find standard-length bolt guns difficult to manage, and it's light enough for long field carries at 7.4 lbs.

The included scope is consistently called good value. Getting a mounted, ready-to-use optic in the package price is a meaningful advantage for budget-conscious buyers and new hunters who would otherwise need to source and mount glass separately.

Accuracy reviews are favorable. Most owners report tight groups at typical hunting distances, and the AccuTrigger's clean break is credited for much of that.

The bolt action is described as smooth, and the rifle's reliability record appears solid based on owner reports.

On the critical side, some buyers note that materials and finish don't match higher-priced rifles. The trigger has drawn occasional comments about room for improvement, and the stock material is sometimes described as feeling basic. These tend to be fit-and-finish observations rather than functional complaints.

Overall, it's seen as a capable, accessible bolt-action at an accessible price, a reasonable first rifle or a compact backup for hunters already owning larger calibers.
