Detailed Features

The .300 WSM cartridge delivers ballistics close to the .300 Win. Mag. in a shorter action. The 25-inch barrel extracts near-full velocity from the short magnum. At 7.2 lbs it is manageable for most hunters but produces noticeable recoil with full-power loads. The bolt cycles consistently and the action is designed to handle the pressures of the WSM cartridge reliably.

The Savage Model 16/116 Weather Warrior in .300 WSM is well regarded as a practical hunting rifle. Accuracy at range is the most cited strength. The .300 WSM's flat trajectory and the 25-inch barrel work well together, and owners report reliable performance on large game. The weather-resistant stock and stainless barrel are called out specifically by hunters who work in wet or variable conditions.

Recoil is the most common caveat. The .300 WSM hits hard, and some shooters new to magnum cartridges find it stout. Most owners who are accustomed to the caliber consider it manageable. Value for money is a recurring positive point, with the rifle often compared favorably to higher-priced alternatives. Potential upgrades, particularly optics, come up frequently in discussions. Aesthetics are functional rather than distinctive, which draws mixed reactions. A few owners mention varied experiences with Savage customer service.
