What Reviewers Say

Except I think Smith and Wesson makes better quality guns definitely.
I decided to go ahead and try one out and I'm going to tell you what guys as skeptical as I have been this is really a game changer for me.
Generally you have a little bit better workmanship in a smith and wesson i'll go on a limb and say that it's been my experience when you're comparing taurus and smith and wesson.
Really cool gun I just like how versatile this one is guys you know you can do bird shot 45 Colt and you got your 45 ACP.
I've never really taken a shine to it mainly because it just seemed like more more of a novelty.
Customers Say
AI-generated insights derived from customer reviews and discussions on popular gun-enthusiast forums.
The S&W Governor generates consistent interest from shooters who want multi-caliber flexibility in a revolver package. The ability to chamber .45 Long Colt and .410 shotgun shells is the main draw, and owners who value that versatility tend to be satisfied.
Build quality and Smith & Wesson's reliability track record earn positive comments, and most owners report the recoil is manageable across both calibers. The .410 shotshell option appeals to newer shooters and those looking for a controllable defensive option at close range.
The size and weight draw the most consistent criticism. At 30.3 oz. and 8.5 inches overall, the Governor is bulky for daily carry or quick access in a tight space. Some shooters also note that the multi-caliber design comes at the cost of specialized performance. The .45 LC, for example, doesn't reach its full potential in a 2.75-inch barrel compared to a purpose-built .45 platform.
The general recommendation from experienced owners is to evaluate whether the caliber flexibility is genuinely useful for your specific application before buying.

I am very pleased with the Governor overall and had been excited to finally get one. My only real criticism is the front sight. It is difficult for me to pick up, especially when the light is poor, and a more visible sight would suit this revolver much better. Mine does not have the laser I had hoped for, but that has not taken away from how happy I am with it.
