Detailed Features

• Exposed hammer allows manual cocking for a lighter single-action trigger pull when precision is needed.
• Transfer bar safety blocks the firing pin unless the trigger is pulled fully to the rear.
• Soft rubber grips help manage recoil from .38 Special +P loads in a small frame.
• Removable serrated blade front sight pairs with a fixed rear sight for a simple sight picture.
• Ambidextrous cylinder release and a 6.55-inch overall length keep the revolver compact for concealed or backup carry.

Owners of the Taurus 856 generally find it reliable, and Taurus quality control has improved noticeably compared to older models from the brand. The matte stainless finish resists corrosion and holds up well under daily carry and holster wear, and the transfer bar safety gives peace of mind for carrying with a loaded chamber.

The small frame and short barrel make the 856 easy to conceal, though the light weight means .38 Special +P loads produce noticeable recoil, especially for shooters with smaller hands. The factory rubber grips help absorb some of that recoil, but some owners swap in aftermarket grips for a more comfortable feel. The exposed hammer is appreciated by those who like the option of a crisper single-action pull for precise shots.

As an affordable six-shot stainless revolver, the 856 draws favorable comparisons to pricier alternatives on price alone. Aftermarket grips, sights, and holsters are readily available given how common the platform has become, though the factory trigger is sometimes cited as needing a smoother break than it has out of the box.
