This Taurus 856 in the Ultra-Lite configuration is a small-frame, double-action/single-action revolver chambered in .38 Special +P with a 2-inch barrel and a 6-round cylinder. It uses a lightweight aluminum frame finished in sky blue Cerakote, paired with a matte stainless barrel and cylinder. A transfer bar system blocks the firing pin unless the trigger is pulled, and the grips are black rubber for a secure hold in a compact package.

Small-frame revolvers like the 856 Ultra-Lite draw praise for straightforward, low-maintenance reliability; there is little to malfunction on a wheelgun, and owners tend to trust it as a backup or carry piece more than they trust some semi-autos in the same size class.

The aluminum frame keeps the 856 light for pocket or ankle carry, but that same lightness means felt recoil with .38 Special +P ammunition is noticeable, and some owners choose to shoot standard-pressure .38 Special for practice and save +P for carry.

On value, the Ultra-Lite sits at an accessible price point next to other small revolvers, and buyers generally see it as good for the money, though a few note the fixed sights and short sight radius take some practice to shoot well at distance.
