Detailed Features

The cylinder takes .454 Casull for full-power hunting loads, .45 Colt for lighter loads, and .410 shotshells. The 3.8 lb weight and rubber grip with cushioned insert are both aimed at managing .454 Casull recoil, a practical necessity with that cartridge. Fiber optic front sights aid target acquisition in varied lighting. The transfer bar safety prevents discharge without trigger pull. SA/DA action allows both deliberate and fast shots.

Usage

At 61 oz with a 3-inch barrel, this is a field gun or home defense revolver, not a carry piece. The .454 Casull chambering makes it suitable for hunting large game. The .45 Colt option allows more manageable practice loads in the same gun.

Feedback on the Taurus Raging Judge 513 splits fairly clearly between enthusiasm for its capability and concern about practical limitations.

The .454 Casull/.45 Colt/.410 chambering draws consistent praise for flexibility. Being able to run lighter practice loads alongside full-power hunting loads in the same gun is a genuine advantage. The build quality and stainless steel construction are generally seen as durable and well-made. The distinctive appearance of the large-frame revolver appeals to owners who appreciate its unique profile.

On the critical side, the .454 Casull recoil from a 3-inch barrel is intense, significantly more so than from longer-barreled versions, and this is the most common concern in reviews. The 61 oz weight is appreciated for stability while shooting but makes any kind of carry impractical. Some users report accuracy concerns at longer distances with the heavier caliber loads. The price-to-performance ratio is debated, with some finding comparable alternatives in the same range.
