Detailed Features

The 28-inch barrel gives the .340 Weatherby Magnum room to develop velocity, and the twist rate of 1:10" stabilizes heavier bullets well for long-range applications. The Monte Carlo stock positions the eye naturally for scope use and provides a comfortable cheek weld. At 8.25 lbs. it has enough mass to take some edge off the .340 WBY's recoil without becoming a burden to carry.

The walnut finish is the defining aesthetic choice here: hand-selected grain patterns and a classic look that separates it from synthetic-stocked alternatives. The Mark V action has a controlled-round feed design and a bolt throw that cycles cleanly.

The Weatherby Mark V Deluxe in .340 WBY draws consistent admiration for its walnut stock and overall fit and finish. It reads as a proper hunting rifle rather than a utilitarian tool, and owners who value that distinction tend to be happy with the investment.

Accuracy is the most commonly cited strength. The .340 Weatherby Magnum has a flat trajectory and carries energy well at distance, making it a go-to for elk and larger plains game. Long-range performance gets positive marks from most users.

Recoil is an honest topic in these discussions. The .340 WBY is a genuine magnum, and while the rifle's 8.25-lb. weight takes some of the edge off, it's not a mild shooter. Users recommend spending time on form before running hot loads, and a few suggest a quality muzzle brake for those who are recoil-sensitive.

Price is a consistent discussion point. The Mark V Deluxe sits at the higher end of the bolt-action market, and opinions split between those who see the walnut finish and Weatherby's quality control as worth the premium, and those who feel comparable accuracy is available for less. Ammunition cost and availability for .340 WBY also come up. It's more expensive and less stocked than mainstream magnums like .300 Win Mag.

For collectors, the historical context of Weatherby's magnum cartridge development adds appeal beyond the shooting characteristics.
