Owners of the Weatherby Mark V Guide in .243 Win point to the Mark V action as the platform's core strength. The bolt cycles with a characteristic smoothness that Weatherby owners expect, and the .243 Win chambering makes the rifle versatile for both varmint and light game applications. Some owners feel the Guide trim level offers a practical, no-frills approach compared to higher-tier Mark V variants.

The 22-inch barrel length is considered a sensible balance for the .243 Win cartridge. In the field, the rifle handles well and accuracy is generally well-regarded by owners who shoot it regularly. A handful of owners note the trigger is serviceable but not as crisp as competitors in the same price tier.

On value, opinions on the Mark V Guide are measured. The Weatherby name carries a premium, and buyers who prioritize the Mark V action's reputation accept the price. Those shopping purely on price sometimes find comparable bolt-action options that offer similar accuracy at a lower cost point, but the Guide's build quality tends to hold up well over extended use.
