The Vanguard .300 Weatherby Magnum is a bolt-action rifle built for hunters and sport shooters who need reliable performance at range. The .300 Weatherby Magnum cartridge hits hard enough for big game and stays flat enough for long-distance work, and the Vanguard's 24-inch sporter-profile barrel gives it the stability to back that up.

The bolt cycles smoothly for quick follow-up shots. A threaded muzzle lets you run a suppressor or muzzle brake to manage recoil. The direct-mount optic system takes a scope without additional bases or rings, keeping the setup clean. At 7.5 lbs the rifle is on the heavier side for a carry gun, but that weight works in your favor when you're shooting prone or from a rest at distance.

Owners of the Weatherby Vanguard in .300 Mag generally like the rifle, with accuracy being the most consistent praise. At longer ranges it delivers repeatable groups, which is what most people buying a magnum hunting rifle are after. Build quality comes up often too. The rifle feels solid and holds up over time. The .300 Weatherby Magnum caliber itself draws favorable comments for stopping power and flexibility across different game sizes. The optic-ready setup is appreciated for how straightforward it makes scope mounting.

On the critical side, weight is a genuine complaint. 7.5 lbs is noticeable on a long pack-out. Trigger feel gets mixed reviews: it functions fine for most users but a few feel the pull could be lighter or crisper. The stock gets some criticism for ergonomics, particularly from shooters who prefer adjustable or more contoured designs. Price is occasionally flagged as slightly high relative to the competition, though most owners consider the accuracy and build quality worth it.

All three of mine produce half-inch or smaller groups at 100 yards, although the recoil is substantial.
