Detailed Features
The two-stage trigger gives you a defined takeup before the break, which helps with long-range shot discipline. The Monte Carlo stock raises the cheekpiece to align your eye with a scope naturally, reducing the need to crane your neck on higher-mounted optics.
At 7.25 lbs and 48.5" overall, the Vanguard is on the longer side. The 26" barrel is part of that tradeoff, and it earns its keep in velocity. The three-position safety lets you carry chambered with the bolt locked, then transition to fire without breaking your grip or your sight picture.
The 3+1 capacity is standard for a magnum-caliber bolt gun. The .300 Weatherby Magnum generates substantial muzzle energy suitable for elk, moose, and other large game at extended ranges.

What Reviewers Say
Quoted verbatim from YouTube reviews. Each link opens the video at the moment quoted.
The action is pretty smooth in these especially once it's worked in. It's very smooth.
Has uh a nice first light stage. Comes to a nice solid wall with no second stage creep.
Weatherbe claims that having a contact point at the end uh actually improves accuracy.
It did seem like it only wanted to have two rounds as far as the mag capacity versus 3 plus one but functioned ejected extracted and fed all right and it's very accurate.
Customers Say
AI-generated insights derived from customer reviews and discussions on popular gun-enthusiast forums.
The Weatherby Vanguard in .300 Mag has a consistent reputation among hunters who've used it: accurate, well-built, and a reasonable value for the money.
Accuracy is the most cited strength. The .300 Weatherby Magnum's flat trajectory and the Vanguard's consistent bolt operation combine to produce tight groups at distance, which matters to hunters shooting across open country. Build quality holds up well too. The action feels smooth and the overall construction is solid without feeling heavy for its weight class.
Recoil comes up regularly, as it does with any .300 magnum, but most users find it manageable for a full day in the field. The rifle compares favorably to pricier options in the same caliber, which is a recurring theme in discussions about value.
Customization gets some attention. Common modifications include scope upgrades and aftermarket stocks for specific hunting setups. Weatherby's warranty and customer service are generally viewed positively, which adds some confidence to the purchase. Aesthetics are secondary to most buyers, though opinions split between those who like the traditional look and those who'd prefer something more modern.

The fluted barrel and muzzle brake are my favorite details on this rifle. I found the original stock color a little dull, so I repainted it, and the change made the overall appearance much more appealing to me.
