The Winchester Xpert is a bolt-action rimfire rifle chambered in .17 HMR. It has an 18-inch button-rifled barrel with a target-style crown and a Bentz-style chamber, paired with a gray synthetic stock and a matte black metal finish. The rifle feeds from a detachable magazine and ships without factory iron sights, built instead around a drilled-and-tapped receiver ready for optics.

Owners of the Xpert line tend to like the fit and finish for the price point, and the synthetic stock holds up well to field use without the upkeep a wood stock demands. The adjustable trigger draws consistent praise since a lot of budget rimfire rifles ship with a heavier, mushier pull, and shooters who tune it in report a noticeably better feel out of the box.

The lack of factory iron sights is a mixed bag. Buyers who plan to mount a scope right away don't mind, but a few owners wish Winchester included at least a basic sight picture for backup use. The drilled-and-tapped receiver with included scope bases makes mounting glass straightforward, which offsets some of that complaint.

As a rimfire platform, the Xpert holds its value reasonably well and parts availability through Winchester's network is solid. Some shooters note the synthetic stock feels a bit hollow compared to heavier sporter designs, but most consider that a fair trade for the lighter overall weight and lower price relative to premium rimfire rifles.
