The STG-44 (Sturmgewehr 44), also known as the MP 44, is widely regarded as the world’s first modern assault rifle. Developed by Germany during World War II, this revolutionary firearm was designed to bridge the gap between submachine guns and full-powered rifles, combining the controllability of a submachine gun with the range and power of a rifle. Chambered in the intermediate 7.92x33mm Kurz cartridge, the STG-44 offered effective performance up to 300 meters, providing soldiers with both semi-automatic and fully automatic fire capabilities.
