The X-Bolt line has a long reputation among hunters for smooth bolt cycling and consistent accuracy from the factory, and the X-Bolt 2 continues that with a redesigned trigger and bolt unlock system owners describe as a noticeable improvement over the original X-Bolt. Occasional complaints center on finish quality on early production runs, but the action itself draws few complaints.

In the field, the Vari-Tech stock's adjustable comb and length of pull get praise from hunters who previously had to shim or pad a fixed stock to get a proper cheek weld. The Inflex recoil pad is frequently mentioned as making the .308 Winchester chambering comfortable for a full day in the field. Some shooters find the SPR-style profile a little front-heavy compared to a standard sporter stock.

On value, the X-Bolt 2 sits in the middle of Browning's lineup, and buyers moving up from entry-level bolt guns generally feel it is worth the price jump. The factory threaded barrel is popular with owners who want to add a suppressor or muzzle brake without gunsmithing, and aftermarket stocks and triggers are widely available given how common the X-Bolt platform is.
