The Century Arms AP5-M is a semi-automatic 9mm pistol built around the MP5 pattern, with a steel frame, 4.5-inch barrel, and 30-round capacity. At 4.43 lbs it's heavier than most handguns, which shapes how and where it gets used.

Detailed Features

Fixed front and drum rear sights cover basic target acquisition. The threaded muzzle accepts suppressors or muzzle devices on a standard thread pattern. Black polymer grips wrap the steel frame and give the shooter a secure hold during extended sessions. The MP5-style roller-delayed blowback mechanism is what distinguishes the AP5 mechanically. It runs 9mm through a system originally designed for sustained-fire applications, which contributes to the weight but also to felt recoil management.

Target Audience

The AP5 fits shooters who want the MP5 shooting experience in a semi-auto civilian package. It's suited for range work and collecting rather than concealed carry. Weight and size rule that out. Home defense is workable if you're comfortable with the heft.

Usage Scenarios

1. Sport Shooting: 30-round magazines and accurate sights make for extended target sessions without frequent mag changes.
2. Home Defense: reliable semi-auto action and substantial magazine capacity, though the 4.43 lb weight is worth factoring in.
3. Tactical Training: the MP5 pattern sees wide use in law enforcement and military training contexts; the AP5 gives civilians access to the same manual of arms.

Owners of the Century Arms AP5 frequently mention the MP5 resemblance as a draw. The platform has genuine appeal for fans of the original design, and the build quality gets described as solid and well-fitted for a Century Arms product.

The 30-round capacity is a consistent positive. Shooters appreciate running longer strings without reloading, and the pistol's reputation for feeding reliably across common 9mm loads comes up in most positive reviews.

The weight is the main criticism. At 4.43 lbs, the AP5-M is heavy for a pistol. Some shooters enjoy the stability it provides during fire, but others find it tiring for extended carry or long range sessions. It's a genuine trade-off that prospective buyers should think through. Price comes up occasionally too, with a few buyers feeling the market is competitive enough that the AP5 needs to justify its cost against alternatives. Most conclude it does, though not everyone agrees.
