The Chiappa Firearms M6 X-Caliber is a folding over/under combination gun with a 12-gauge barrel and a .22 LR barrel, built around a folding mechanism that cuts it in half for transport. It's light enough to carry all day and packs easily into a pack, which makes it a natural fit for hunting, camping, or survival use.

Features

The Rem Chokebore design gives some flexibility in ammunition selection. The rifle breaks open and folds in half for compact carry. A double trigger system provides separate triggers for each barrel, and three receiver-mounted Picatinny rails accept optics or accessories.

Sights are adjustable fiber optic with a fixed front and M1-style rear. A top-tang manual safety handles the security side.

Usage

The folding design is well suited to hunters who cover a lot of ground on foot, or as a lightweight backup firearm on a camping or hiking trip. The one-round-per-barrel layout rewards accuracy, which also makes it a reasonable option for casual precision work at the range.

The Chiappa M6 X-Caliber draws most of its appeal from the folding design. Owners frequently cite portability and ease of storage as the main reasons they bought it, and it shows up often in discussions about survival kits and backpacking loadouts.

The ability to shoot both .22 LR and 12-gauge shells is a common talking point. Having a multi-caliber option in a single compact package matters to people who want one rifle to handle small game and occasional defensive use.

The price is generally seen as reasonable relative to other survival rifles.

Build quality feedback runs in both directions. Some owners report solid, consistent performance; others flag concerns about durability or fit under hard use. Accuracy opinions vary similarly. Many find it quite capable for its size, while others feel it falls short at longer ranges. The controls are straightforward and the rifle is easy to maintain, though the unconventional design takes a short learning curve for new users.

The retro military aesthetic earns positive comments from people who appreciate that look. Most discussions acknowledge it as a niche tool, well suited for survivalists and outdoor use, less so as a primary defensive or competitive firearm.
