The Chiappa Rhino 30DS is a .357 Magnum / .38 Special revolver with a cylinder positioned at the bottom of the frame rather than the center. That geometry puts the bore axis in line with the shooter's wrist, so muzzle rise on firing is significantly reduced compared to a conventional revolver. The 30DS has a 3-inch barrel, weighs 1.7 lbs (27.2 oz), and holds 6 rounds.

Features

The low cylinder axis is the defining characteristic. It lets the gun come back in a straight line rather than rotating upward, which translates to faster shot recovery. Red/green fiber optic sights aid target acquisition in varied lighting. The alloy frame keeps weight down without giving up structural integrity. Three moon clips are included, which speed reloads considerably over loading individual rounds.

Usage

The Rhino 30DS fits concealed carry reasonably well given its compact size and weight. The reduced muzzle rise is more noticeable with full-power .357 Magnum loads, making those rounds more manageable for follow-up shots. The moon clips and fiber optic sights make it a usable competition revolver as well.

Reaction to the Rhino 30DS tends to split on the design itself. It is either something people find genuinely useful or an oddity they prefer to avoid.

The low bore axis gets the most consistent praise. Shooters who run it alongside conventional revolvers notice the reduced muzzle flip, especially when firing .357 Magnum. That translates to quicker recovery for follow-up shots and less fatigue during longer range sessions.

The fiber optic sights also get positive mention. They pick up light quickly and help with target acquisition in lower-light conditions.

On the critical side, weight and size come up fairly often. At 1.7 lbs unloaded the 30DS is heavier than some compact carry revolvers, and the distinctive frame shape can make holster selection harder than with conventional guns.

Grip ergonomics are polarizing. Some shooters find the rubber grips comfortable and well-suited to the gun's recoil pattern; others feel the grip geometry does not fit their hand well and wish for more options.

Overall sentiment leans positive for those who prioritize recoil management, with the main practical concerns being holster compatibility and personal grip preference.
