Description

The Chiappa Rhino 40DS is a double/single-action .357 Magnum revolver with a 4-inch barrel, a six-round cylinder, a hard chrome finish and walnut grips.

The UPC on this listing (prefix 752334) belongs to MKS Supply of Dayton, Ohio, which marketed Chiappa's revolvers in the United States and is also the marketer for Hi-Point Firearms. That shared barcode prefix is why some retailers list this gun under Hi-Point. It is a Chiappa Rhino, made in Italy.

Detailed Features

The Rhino fires from the bottom chamber of the cylinder rather than the top, so the barrel sits in line with the shooter's hand. Recoil comes back into the palm instead of levering the muzzle upward, which is the design's whole reason to exist.

The part that looks like a hammer is a cocking lever: it cocks an internal hammer and then drops back into place, so the gun looks the same cocked or uncocked.

The 4-inch 40DS sits between the carry-length 200DS and the 6-inch range gun, and is the length many owners pick for a single do-everything revolver.

Owners talk about the low bore axis more than anything else. Most who have shot one say it does reduce muzzle rise with .357 Magnum loads, and that the recoil feels like a straight push rather than a flip. The 4-inch length is often described as the best balance in the line. The hard chrome finish draws comments on its looks, and the usual Rhino caveats apply: an unfamiliar manual of arms and limited holster choice.
