The Chiappa Rhino 40SAR is a revolver built around a low bore axis, which drops the barrel to the bottom of the cylinder rather than the top. That geometry cuts muzzle rise substantially, so follow-up shots land faster and more accurately than with a conventional revolver.
The 7075-T6 alloy frame is the same aluminum alloy grade used in aerospace applications, light but genuinely strong. At 29.9 oz it sits on the heavier side for a carry revolver, though the weight helps tame the .40 SW.
Fiber optic elements on both the front and rear sights give a clear sight picture in most lighting. The rear is fully adjustable for elevation and windage. The exposed hammer lets you cock to single-action for a lighter trigger pull when the shot calls for it.
A good fit for shooters who already like revolvers and want to try the Rhino's recoil-reduction approach, as well as anyone who finds .40 SW manageable and wants a six-round option for home or range use.
The 5-inch barrel gives useful sight radius for range work, and the fiber optic sights help at varied distances. For concealed carry the size is on the larger end but not unusual for a full-size revolver.
Owners of the Rhino 40SAR tend to be positive about the core concept. The low bore axis is the most-discussed feature, and most shooters confirm that muzzle rise is meaningfully reduced compared to conventional revolvers, quicker follow-up shots with less effort to reacquire the target.
Recoil management is the next recurring topic. The .40 SW in a 29.9 oz frame is not punishing, and many users note they can shoot longer sessions without fatigue.
Accuracy reports are generally good, helped by the longer 5-inch barrel and the fiber optic sight setup. Ergonomics get positive marks too. The walnut grip panels feel solid and the weight distribution works for most hand sizes.
Build quality is considered solid. The machined alloy frame has a quality feel and owners report consistent reliability.
The common friction points: holster selection is limited because the Rhino's profile is unusual, so sourcing a good holster takes more effort than with a mainstream revolver. Some shooters have opinions about .40 SW availability or prefer a different caliber, but that's a personal-preference split rather than a product complaint. A few also note the price is higher than some competing revolvers, though most consider the feature set to justify it.
