The Chiappa Rhino 60SAR Hunter is a .357 Magnum double/single-action revolver with a 6-inch barrel, chambered to fire from the bottom cylinder position rather than the top. This design drops the bore axis significantly, which reduces muzzle rise and shifts felt recoil more straight back into the hand.

Features

The 7075-T6 aluminum alloy frame keeps weight at roughly 2.1 lbs despite the 6-inch barrel, lighter than most all-steel revolvers of this length. The cylinder and barrel are steel. The fiber optic sights (fixed red up front, adjustable green in the rear) work well in varied lighting conditions, and the rear sight adjusts for both elevation and windage.

Three moon clips and a removal tool are included. Moon clips allow faster reloads than traditional loose rounds in a revolver. The internal safety mechanism means the hammer cannot contact the firing pin without a trigger pull. The OD Green frame with blued cylinder is one of several finish options Chiappa offers on the Rhino line.

The Chiappa Rhino 60SAR in OD Green generates a divided response. Shooters who come from a background of conventional revolvers often need time to adjust to the grip angle and the unconventional look, but most report that the low bore axis genuinely delivers on its promise. Muzzle rise is noticeably less than a comparable conventional revolver, which helps with follow-up shots.

The OD Green finish gets positive comments for its tactical appearance, and most owners find the grip comfortable. A minority of users feel the grip shape could be improved for larger hands. Accuracy with .357 Magnum is generally well-regarded. The occasional report of ammunition sensitivity or unit-specific malfunctions surfaces in online discussions, though these appear to be isolated rather than systematic.

Pricing relative to more conventional revolvers is a recurring discussion point. Some shooters consider it good value for the unique design; others argue that established alternatives offer comparable performance at lower cost. The Rhino's unconventional design means it tends to attract shooters who are specifically interested in its engineering rather than buyers defaulting to a traditional platform.
