Detailed Features

The cold hammer-forged barrel maintains consistent bore dimensions, which is important for .22 LR accuracy at precision distances. The adjustable trigger lets shooters set pull weight to preference for a clean break. The fixed varmint-style stock has a 13.75" length of pull and a raised cheekpiece for a consistent cheekweld. The two-position push-to-fire safety is simple to operate.

The CZ 457 platform is modular. Stocks and barrels can be swapped across the 457 family, which expands customization options beyond what comes in the box.

Usage Scenarios

For varmint hunters, the 20.5-inch barrel and 1:16" twist are well-matched to standard .22 LR ammunition at typical field ranges. On the bench or at a precision rimfire match, the adjustable trigger and heavy barrel profile help with repeatable shot placement.

The CZ 457 Varmint MTR draws consistently strong reviews from precision rimfire shooters. Accuracy is the most-cited strength. Owners report tight groups that make it competitive in its class. The bolt runs smoothly, and the adjustable trigger is well-regarded for a factory unit.

The Turkish walnut stock draws positive comments for both feel and appearance. Most shooters find the ergonomics comfortable, and the 13.75-inch length of pull fits a wide range of builds.

A few recurring concerns: the 7.08 lb weight is on the heavy end for a .22 LR, which matters if you're carrying it in the field for extended periods. Some users note that ammunition sensitivity is real. Lower-quality .22 LR ammo produces wider groups, and the rifle rewards running quality match-grade loads. The active CZ community provides good resources for setup and maintenance. Overall, feedback is positive and it compares favorably in price to other precision rimfire options.

Fit and finish are superb, and the rifle arrived in flawless condition. Mine has also been exceptionally accurate. Standard velocity CCI produced half-inch five-shot groups at 50 yards, while Eley target ammunition tightened those groups to around one third of an inch. The compact, manageable feel is another pleasant surprise for something presented as a target rifle. It is short and handy enough that carrying it afield would not bother me, although the match chamber has shown a clear preference for better ammunition over cheap loads.
