Detailed Features

The lever action is smooth and lets you get on a follow-up shot quickly, which suits the fast pace of varmint hunting. At 5.75 lbs. the rifle is light enough to carry and move with across rough ground, yet it still holds steady when you settle in to aim.

The blued finish helps the metal resist rust and wear, and it looks good doing it. The checkered American walnut stock gives you a solid grip and a bit of classic character.

Fiber optic sights front and rear make the rifle easy to aim in changing light, so you can pick up your target even in dim morning or evening conditions.

Target Audience

This rifle is made for hunters who focus on small game and varmint control. The controls are simple enough for a beginner to learn on, and the rifle is accurate and reliable enough to keep an experienced shooter happy.

Usage Scenarios

Picture an early morning hunt with the Varmint Express in hand, the sun coming up over open fields as you settle in near a squirrel nest or a prairie dog town. The .17 HMR cartridge lets you take accurate shots at distance with little noise and very little recoil to throw off your aim.

It works well beyond the hunt, too. The same agility and precision make it a good fit for casual competitive shooting, for pest control around a farm, or for a day at the range working on your groups.

If you want a dependable small-game rifle that mixes classic lever-action craftsmanship with modern sights and ammunition, the Henry Varmint Express is worth a look.

Owners of the Henry Varmint Express .17 HMR Lever Rifle tend to talk about it with a mix of enthusiasm and practicality. The lever-action design draws a lot of comments, since it stands apart from the more common bolt-action varmint rifles, and the smooth action gets steady praise for how it handles in the field.

Accuracy comes up almost as often. Shooters report that the .17 HMR is very precise, which makes the rifle a solid pick for small game and target work. The flat trajectory and light recoil get called out as reasons the rifle is pleasant to shoot over a long session.

Build quality is another point in its favor. Owners mention the sturdy construction and the good-looking finish, which lines up with Henry's track record. The 20-inch barrel gets credit for balancing handling against accuracy, and that appeals to new and experienced shooters alike.

The feedback is not all positive. A few owners wish the 11-round magazine held more, noting that while it covers most situations they would like extra capacity for longer range days or competition. Weight is the other sticking point: some like the solid feel, while others find it a touch heavier than they expected from a varmint rifle.

On the whole, opinions on the Henry Varmint Express .17 HMR run positive. Many owners recommend it to anyone who wants traditional lever-action style paired with modern performance for varmint hunting or target shooting.
