Detailed Features

The stainless finish resists corrosion well and gives the gun a clean look. The single-action mechanism keeps each pull deliberate. Adjustable rear sights let you dial in point of impact for different loads or distances. Hogue one-piece rubber grips absorb some of the recoil energy over a longer session. The revolver also ships with a Weaver scope mount for easy optics attachment.

Target Audience

Hunters who want a large-frame handgun for medium to large game, and range shooters who like big-bore single actions. The 7.5-inch barrel gives a longer sight radius and wrings out more velocity from .357 Magnum loads.

Usage Scenarios

The 7.5-inch barrel and adjustable sights make this a field revolver first. At 5 lbs it's not a carry gun, but it's steady to hold at extended range distances, and the .357 Magnum chambering is capable on deer-sized game at typical handgun hunting ranges.

Owners of the Magnum Research BFR in .357 Magnum generally like what they get, though the size and recoil come up consistently as things to weigh before buying.

The stainless finish gets good marks for durability and corrosion resistance. Accuracy is a frequent positive, with shooters noting it performs well at longer handgun distances thanks to the 7.5-inch barrel and adjustable sights. Many buyers appreciate the solid, heavy build and find the weight helps manage recoil during a session.

That said, the 5-lb weight and 15-inch overall length make it impractical for anything other than field or range use. Some find it tiring to hold on target for extended sessions. .357 Magnum recoil in a large-frame revolver is meaningful, and newer shooters sometimes find it more than expected.

The trigger gets mostly positive comments on smoothness, though some feel there is still room for improvement. Overall, buyers who go in knowing what the BFR is (a large, heavy, capable single-action hunting revolver) tend to come away satisfied.
