The PTR GIR PTR 101 is a semi-automatic rifle chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO (.308 Win) with a roller-delayed blowback operating system. The 18-inch barrel and 40.5-inch overall length keep it reasonably compact for a .308 platform. At 9.5 lbs, it's on the heavier side but the roller-delayed action does reduce felt recoil compared to direct impingement designs.

Use Cases

The 7.62x51mm caliber and 20+1 capacity make it capable for medium to large game hunting, precision target shooting, and competition. The roller-delayed mechanism's accuracy reputation suits shooters who want consistent performance at distance. Home defense is a secondary use case given the caliber and semi-auto action.

The PTR GIR 101 in OD Green draws generally positive feedback, with some consistent friction points. Build quality and durability get good marks. Owners find it solid and well-finished. Accuracy at distance is a frequent highlight; the roller-delayed system's precision reputation holds up in owner reports.

The OD green color draws positive comments from those who like the tactical aesthetic.

Weight is the most common complaint at 9.5 lbs. Extended carry or long sessions at the range make it tiring. .308 ammunition cost is another recurring concern for high-volume shooters.

Customization and aftermarket support come up as a mixed topic. The rifle accepts various accessories but the aftermarket ecosystem is smaller than for AR-10 platform rifles, which some owners find limiting. Overall, the PTR GIR 101 gets recommended for its performance, with weight being the main trade-off to accept.
