The Savage A22 Magnum Pro Varmint is a semi-automatic rifle chambered in .22 WMR, built around a 22-inch heavy barrel and Savage's AccuTrigger system. The heavy barrel cuts recoil noticeably and steadies the gun for follow-up shots, useful when clearing varmints where you rarely get just one opportunity. The AccuTrigger is user-adjustable, so you can dial in pull weight to match your preference rather than living with whatever the factory set.

Detailed Features

The Picatinny rail lets you mount any standard optic without adapters, a practical choice given that .22 WMR at range really benefits from glass. The delayed-blowback action cycles the .22 WMR on its own, and the 10-round rotary magazine keeps reloads quick enough for field use.

Usage Scenarios

• Varmint Hunting: The .22 WMR cartridge has the reach and energy for coyotes and rabbits at field distances where .22 LR starts to fall short.
• Target Shooting: The AccuTrigger and heavy barrel combination makes for a consistent, accurate range gun.
• Small Game: Adequate power for squirrels and similar quarry without excessive meat damage at closer ranges.

The A22 Pro Varmint draws generally positive reviews, with accuracy being the most commonly praised attribute. Shooters who hunt varmints at distance appreciate a semi-automatic .22 WMR paired with the AccuTrigger. The adjustable pull weight gets mentioned often as a genuine differentiator. Build quality also comes up frequently; the rifle feels solid, and users report it holds up across varied weather conditions.

The .22 WMR chambering earns its own set of compliments. Shooters note the extra reach and terminal performance compared to .22 LR, while still finding recoil and noise manageable for extended range sessions.

The criticisms are consistent: at 7.3 lbs, the rifle is on the heavier end for a rimfire, which matters when you're carrying it across rough terrain. A handful of users have flagged feeding issues with certain magazine brands. Price comes up too. Some feel comparable performance is available for less, though the AccuTrigger alone tends to justify it for most buyers. Aftermarket support is thinner than for more popular platforms, which limits customization options.

Overall, the A22 Pro Varmint is well-regarded among .22 WMR shooters who prioritize accuracy and trigger quality, with weight and price as the main trade-offs to weigh.
