Owners of the Axis 2 chambered in .25-06 Remington often pick it for flat-shooting varmint and deer hunting, and most describe the rifle as reliable once it settles in. The action runs smoothly, and the barrel is generally reported to hold accuracy well, though a few buyers feel the factory stock is the weak point compared to the metalwork.

In the field, the gray stock's pistol grip and palm swells make the rifle easy to manage, and the redesigned bolt handle helps in cold or wet weather. The threaded barrel is a common reason hunters choose this rifle, since it allows a suppressor to be added without gunsmithing.

.25-06 Remington is a less common chambering than .308 or .270, so owners like that Savage offers it in a budget-friendly package. The AccuTrigger continues to be the most praised feature on the Axis 2 line, and a number of buyers add glass or swap the stock as their first modification.
