The Savage Arms Axis 2 in .400 Legend is a bolt-action rifle with an FDE synthetic stock and matte black finish. It is a left-hand model, which is a meaningful distinction for southpaw shooters who have fewer choices in this price range.

The user-adjustable AccuTrigger lets shooters dial in pull weight without sending the rifle to a gunsmith. The 20-inch barrel with a 1-in-16 twist is well matched to .400 Legend, a straight-wall cartridge that offers more terminal energy than .350 Legend while staying within the legal requirements of states that restrict deer hunting to straight-wall rounds.
At 6.4 lbs. with no sights installed, the rifle is ready for a scope. The FDE synthetic stock holds up in field conditions, and integral swivel studs mean sling attachment is straightforward. The matte black finish on the barrel and action contrasts cleanly with the FDE stock.
Left-handed hunters and shooters are the obvious audience. It also suits anyone shopping for a straight-wall cartridge hunting rifle at an accessible price point, particularly in the midwest where .400 Legend-legal zones overlap with deer season.
Well, that's two in the same hole, guys. I think we're done.
That's way better than I was expecting. Yeah, maybe Winchester built something worth having.

The Savage Axis 2 .400 Legend gets consistent praise for value and the AccuTrigger. Shooters find the adjustable pull genuinely useful. It comes across as a thoughtful inclusion at this price. The .400 Legend cartridge itself attracts attention from hunters wanting a bit more energy than .350 Legend while keeping the straight-wall compliance that midwestern hunting regulations require.
The FDE and matte black color combination gets mixed reactions. Some buyers like the tactical look, others prefer more traditional finishes. Build quality questions come up occasionally, with some experienced shooters noting the stock and finish don't match what you'd find on rifles costing twice as much. For the price, most consider it acceptable.
Overall the rifle is well regarded as a practical, affordable hunting platform. More experienced shooters tend to note its limitations, but for first-time hunters or anyone on a budget, it's frequently recommended as a sensible starting point.
