The trigger pull is user-adjustable, which lets you dial it in for the kind of shooting you're doing. A crisper, lighter break is an advantage for accuracy without adding complication.
The matte black finish cuts glare and handles outdoor exposure without special care. The synthetic FDE stock is durable and weather-resistant. At 6.4 lbs. with a 20" barrel, the rifle is light enough to carry all day without becoming a burden.
The receiver is pre-drilled and tapped for scope mounts, which is the expected starting point for most hunting builds in this caliber.
The .400 Legend is a straight-walled cartridge positioned above the .350 Legend in terms of energy, and a solid choice for deer and other medium game at typical field distances.
I mean, it's really an all-around great hunting rifle.
Well, that's two in the same hole, guys. I think we're done.
These rifles are still great lots of features shoot excellent right out of the box.
They've got this really nice hexagonally shaped oversized bolt handle. Now, I actually really like this cuz it has really excellent purchase when charging a firearm.
That's way better than I was expecting. Yeah, maybe Winchester built something worth having.

User discussions around the Savage Axis 2 .400 Legend Matte Black generally reflect the same story as the broader Axis 2 line: good value, honest accuracy, and a few rougher edges.
Affordability is a consistent draw. Buyers looking for a dependable bolt-action without a premium price tag frequently land on the Axis 2, and most feel it delivers on that expectation.
Accuracy gets positive coverage. The smooth bolt throw and comfortable ergonomics come up often, and the AccuTrigger is consistently credited for helping shooters group well. The .400 Legend caliber is noted as a practical option for deer and medium game hunting.
On the critical side, some users feel accuracy at longer ranges doesn't match higher-end rifles. The stock draws occasional complaints about feeling insubstantial, and a small number of buyers are bothered by the fit and finish compared to more expensive options. Enthusiasts looking for top-tier performance tend to look at upgrades or other platforms, but most casual hunters and range shooters are satisfied with the rifle as-configured.
